How to post a video on Stocktwits

Stocktwits now supports video posts. You can share chart walk-throughs, trade breakdowns, earnings reactions, and market commentary directly from the post box - on iOS, Android, and Web.

If you do not see the icon in your post box yet, it is on its way. Update your app to the latest version on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

How to post a video

Posting a video works the same way as posting text or an image — everything starts in the post box.

  1. Open the post box: Tap the post box at the top of your feed or on any symbol page.
  2. Tap the video icon: You'll see it in the toolbar at the bottom of the post box, next to the image and GIF icons.
  3. Choose your video: Select a video from your camera roll or files. MP4 and MOV are supported, iPhone and Android screen recordings work without any conversion.
  4. Choose your video: Select a video from your camera roll or files. MP4 and MOV are supported, iPhone and Android screen recordings work without any conversion.

Tip: Landscape orientation (16:9) displays best in the feed. Portrait (9:16) and square (1:1) are also fully supported.

Your video will process for a few seconds after posting. It will appear in your feed and on the tagged symbol page once processing is complete.

Frequently asked questions

Where does my video appear after I post?

Your video appears in the feeds of everyone who follows you, and on the symbol page for any cashtag you include in your post (e.g. $SPY). It shows up in the same stream as text and image posts.

Can I tag more than one ticker in a video post?

Yes, you can include multiple cashtags (up to 5) in your post text. Your video will appear on each of those symbol pages.

Tip: Tagging multiple tickers that are irrelevant to your post may result in spam reports.

Can I add text to my video post?

Yes. The post box works the same way as a regular text post - add your cashtag, any commentary, and your video together in a single post.

Can I post more than one video in a single post?

Not at this time. One video per post. You can always post a follow-up with additional video.

Can I edit or delete a video after posting?

You can delete a video post the same way you would delete any post on Stocktwits (within 5 minutes of posting). Editing a post after publishing is not currently supported.

Can I record a video directly in the app?

Not at this time. You'll need to record your video in your camera app or with a screen recorder, then upload it from your camera roll.

What video formats are supported?

MP4, MOV, and WebM are accepted. MP4 is strongly recommended for the widest compatibility across iOS, Android, and Web.

Do iPhone and Android screen recordings work?

Yes, recordings made with the native iOS or Android screen recorder can be uploaded directly without any conversion. Most common mobile screen aspect ratios fall within the accepted range.

My video failed to upload. What should I check?

The most common reasons for upload failure:

If the upload continues to fail after checking the above, try refreshing the app and uploading again. If the issue persists, contact Stocktwits support.

Can I post a vertical (portrait) video?

Yes. Portrait videos (9:16) are fully supported and work well for mobile-first content. Landscape (16:9) displays best in the desktop feed, but both formats look good across devices.

What happens if my video doesn't have audio?

Silent videos are fully supported. Audio is optional.

Can I add captions or subtitles to my video?

Captions and subtitles are not yet supported. If accessibility is a concern, consider adding a text summary of your main point in the post body.

Can I choose a custom thumbnail?

Not at this time. The thumbnail is automatically generated from the first frame of your video. To control what appears as your thumbnail, make sure your first frame is clear and representative of your content.

Does it matter what frame rate I export at?

Up to 60 fps is accepted. 30 fps is recommended for standard uploads. The most important thing is to use a fixed frame rate - variable frame rate exports (common in some screen recorders) can cause playback issues.

Why don't I see the video icon in my post box?

Update your iOS or Android app to the latest app store version. If you are on Web, hard refresh the website.

How do I watch videos in my feed?

Videos appear inline in your feed and on symbol pages. Tap a video to play it. Videos may autoplay as you scroll, depending on your device settings.

Do videos autoplay with sound?

Videos start muted by default. Tap the video to unmute.

Can I see all the videos a specific user has posted?

You can view their profile to see their post history, which includes video posts alongside text and image posts. A dedicated video tab on profiles is not yet available.

What kind of content works best?

Under 60 seconds tends to hit the sweet spot. Screen recording with voice-over or face-cam both work well. Keep it focused - one stock, one idea.

I saw a video that violates the community guidelines. How do I report it?

Tap the menu on any post (the three dots) and select Report. Flagged videos enter a moderation queue and will be reviewed by the Stocktwits team.

Can I use background music in my video?

Only if you own the rights to it or it is licensed for reuse. Using unlicensed music, including copyrighted songs, is a violation of the Community Guidelines and may result in your video being removed.
